About

The Urology ST3 National Selection interview is one of the most competitive stages in surgical training – a 60-minute, four-station viva where over three applicants compete for every post.

To secure your first-choice job and preferred deanery, you need more than knowledge – you need structure, focus, and the ability to perform under pressure. In short, you must prepare for this interview with the same strategy you’d bring to an exam.

This course gives you everything you need to excel on interview day: clear frameworks for each station, step-by-step guidance from high-scoring trainees and consultant urologists, and practical tools to refine your delivery. By the end, you’ll know exactly how to approach every scenario, communicate confidently, and stand out as a polished, well-prepared future Urology registrar.

Every module mirrors the real Urology ST3 interview – its structure, timing, and pressure – so your preparation feels focused and realistic. You’ll learn the skills that consistently separate high-scoring candidates at national selection, applying proven frameworks across clinical, management, and communication stations while targeting the domains that carry the most marks and make the biggest difference to your overall score.

FAQ

It’s a national recruitment process for entry into specialist Urology training (ST3) in the UK. The interview lasts about 60 minutes, with four structured stations assessing clinical knowledge, communication, skills and portfolio. Selection is competitive, with over three applicants per post each year.

Extremely. In recent rounds, competition ratios have exceeded 3:1, meaning preparation is key to securing your preferred deanery and training number.
Start early and prepare with structure. Focus on two areas – knowledge and delivery. Practise common clinical and communication themes, learn to apply frameworks under timed conditions, and rehearse how you present yourself virtually. The Medset course is designed to help you do exactly that.
The course includes five focused modules: portfolio preparation, clinical management and emergency scenarios, communication, skills, outpatient and management cases, and high-scoring answer frameworks applicable to any station.
Yes. You can combine the online course with an optional live mock interview, giving you personalised feedback on structure, timing and delivery.
Our question bank is fully online. You can access the modules anytime and practise at your own pace. If you choose a mock interview this will be held online via Zoom, reflecting the nature of the real interview.
The course has been designed by consultant urologists and high-scoring trainees who’ve successfully navigated the national selection process themselves, bringing real insight into what interviewers look for.
Yes. You’ll learn how to interpret and present the self-assessment framework, structure your evidence and prepare to discuss your achievements confidently in the interview.
Dates vary each year, but interviews usually take place in March–April, following the application and longlisting stages through Oriel. Always check the official NHS England recruitment site for confirmed timelines.
Yes. The Urology ST3 National Selection interview continues to be held virtually, so our course mirrors the same setup and expectations.
