FAQ

Paediatrics ST1 recruitment is run as a single national process by the Paediatrics National Recruitment Office and RCPCH. After your Oriel application and shortlisting, you attend a structured online interview. This is a two-station, multi-scenario online interview on the Qpercom platform: each station lasts 20 minutes and the whole process about 45 minutes, covering communication, career motivation, clinical reasoning and reflective practice. Your performance is ranked nationally to determine offers.
Paediatrics ST1 is competitive. Recent national figures show around three to six applicants competing for each post. In 2026 the competition ratio was about 5.1 applications per post (2,605 applications for 508 posts), slightly down from 5.6 in 2025 but well above about 3.3 in 2024.
For Round 1, Paediatrics ST1 interviews run from early February to late March (2 February to 25 March 2027), with offers released in early April (6 April 2027). Exact dates are published each year on the RCPCH and NHS England recruitment sites, so candidates should always check the latest timetable.
Yes. Paediatrics ST1 interviews are held online on the Qpercom platform. Our course is designed around this online format.

Applications close on 19 November 2026 and virtual interviews take place between 2 February and 25 March 2027, with offers by 6 April 2027.
