FAQ

The Vascular Surgery ST3 National Selection interview is a remote national assessment for higher surgical training in the UK. It evaluates candidates across clinical, communication, management and operative skills scenarios to determine suitability for ST3 training posts.
The interview is a single online session lasting around 50 minutes, divided into two stations. In the 2026 round the interview was a single online session of about 50 minutes in two stations: Station 1 covered a clinical scenario and a communication scenario, and Station 2 a management scenario and a virtual operative skills scenario, each with reading time. NHS England has not yet confirmed the 2027 format. Each area is timed and scored independently, closely reflecting real consultant practice.
For the 2027 recruitment cycle, applications close on 10 December 2026, interviews are scheduled for 9 February 2027 (online), and portfolio verification and evidence upload follow the application close, with dates to be confirmed.
In 2025 there were 225 applications for 35 vacant ST3 posts in the UK. The competition ratio that year was 6.43 applications per post.
Absolutely. The course includes live mock stations with consultant-led feedback, replicating the timing, format, and pressure of the real interview.
No – Vascular Surgery ST3 recruitment is based on your portfolio verification and interview performance.
Yes. In 2026 the interview was held online on Qpercom Recruit, and NHS England has not announced any change for 2027.
