About

Expert witness work can be genuinely rewarding (and well paid), but it’s a very different skillset to day-to-day clinical practice. Most clinicians are never formally taught how to write a robust medico-legal report, handle a conference with counsel, contribute properly in a meeting of experts, or give clear, confident evidence under pressure. The stakes are high: your opinion must be impartial, clearly reasoned, and defensible, and you need to understand what the court actually expects from an expert.

Our training is designed to make you instruction-ready. You’ll learn how to structure and write defensible reports, explain your reasoning clearly, work effectively with solicitors and counsel, and feel confident if your opinion is challenged.

We offer two Expert Witness Training options, depending on how you like to learn and how quickly you want to build confidence: an instant-access, self-paced online course, or a flagship 2-day live course in Oxford for in-person teaching.

If you’re also looking for formal certification, you combine our live course with a final assessment at the University of Strathclyde, leading to the Expert Witness Certificate on successful completion.

What's Certification?

Certification is becoming increasingly important in expert witness work. It’s a simple way to show solicitors, courts, and instructing teams that you take medico-legal standards seriously, you’re trained for the role, and you keep your knowledge up to date, rather than “learning on the job” when the stakes are high.

If you want a more formal pathway (not just training), the University of Strathclyde Expert Witness Certificate, delivered in collaboration with Inspire MediLaw, is structured in three clear stages:

You’ll need to allow enough time to complete the modules and have your report ready at least three weeks before the assessment date. On successful completion, you receive the accredited certificate, reflecting both competence and credibility as an expert witness, plus a strong foundation to help you build confidence and progress your medico-legal work.
